Travelling on Your Own

If you are travelling alone, either for business or pleasure, then your safety is your first priority.

  • Let someone reliable know your itinerary.
  • When booking your trip, consider a larger, well known hotel chain since they offer greater security.
  • When checking in, let the desk clerk know that your room number is not to be given to anyone your havent authorized.
  • Avoid rooms on the 1st floor and try to secure a room near the elevator.
  • Check your room for secure, undamaged locks, locking balcony door, working phones with switchboard access, fire detectors and sprinklers
  • When not in your room, dont hang signs on the door asking that the room be made up. This signals that you are not in your room. Always leave a radio or TV on when you leave.
  • Store all your valuables in the hotel safety deposit box.
  • Keep your room key in you possession at all times and always lock your door.
  • Dont answer the door if you arent expecting anyone. Even if you are expecting someone, always verify their identity through the peep hole.
  • If you rent a vehicle, consider renting a cell phone as well for emergencies. Avoid parking lots after dark and in areas with few people around. Have your keys in your hand as you approach the vehicle and always check the back seat before entering and lock the doors behind you.
